1/52
"A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014."
Poet: with all our ocean swims her hair is reaching a new level of wild. So too is her temperament (shot on a canon 5d mkiii - ISO 1000, f2.8, 1/80)
Yesterday I wrote a little about this project, including my reasons why I won't be posting Che's portrait this year.
For those of you new to here, welcome! If you click "read more" below you'll see a button to link your own post. It's fairly straight forward....just follow the prompts. If you have any problems just let me know in the comments section.
Next week I'll be listing my five favourite portraits from 1/52 - just like I did last year.

very excited to do this project and do it right this time around….thanks for putting in all the hard work
ReplyDeletei know what it is like to have a little one with not only a temperament but unruly hair. maybe they go together?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to being part of this project and to practicing simplicity this year.

What A Lovely Start! wild wild hair...Poet oh I know it so! I have taken to plaiting Elsa's at night quite often so that she doesn't awake to a tangles galore. The wildness runs well beneath the roots and so she is not keen to be tamed either ;)
ReplyDeleteI know that I will enjoy following your 52 project for 2014 Jodi. No portrait to contribute today (shamefully I am running 4 behind on last year's project!!)...and not certain I will join in as my almost 4 year old is no longer keen to be my subject and I too feel a need to step back a little and let her be. But I am very much inspired to keep taking photos and no doubt some will be of her.
I am loving the new look and I love that it is the same feel as Che and Fidel…congratulations on a successful transition!
ReplyDeleteI am really thrilled to be taking part in this project again this year. Thank you.
I am joining in this year after seeing another blogger do this in 2013. My photos this week are not great but I have made a start and look forward to learning more about my camera and taking photos of my children that I can look back and smile upon.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for another year of this wonderful project! I absolutely love the new look and new name Jodi, biggest congratulations.. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elle! x
Deletegood for you regarding che, I only take photos of my 8year mold boy if he wants to, if hes not into it - it doesn't happen :) Luckily the 1year old and 5year old love it x
ReplyDeleteDear Jodi, what a wonderful turn your blog took! I always read your blog, last year I started the 52 project but I failed because I don't have a blog, so I made one for the project but it became too much. This year I have started and will do it in Instagram, and at the end of the year I will have a book printed. I always carry my phone and take pictures of my curly haired daughter that looks very much like yours! So I think my projects is doable in a simple way! Take care and the best of luck in your new path!
ReplyDeletebeautiful new look Jodi! I am participating again this year with one for the boy and one of dear hubby and I. We need to have a record of us too!
ReplyDeleteI want to smooch her x
ReplyDeletebeautiful girl.
ReplyDelete1/52... lets hope I can stick it out this year (I'm feeling confident!) x
Wild curls and wild dispositions go hand in hand. ;)
ReplyDeleteThose lips. Oh my! X
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm joinign in this year. I love this project, but learned about it too late to join in last year.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
i love this new blog and the feeling of knowing it already.. and i was looking forward to the new 52 project!! i'll post my first portrait late (i'm creating a new blog..) but i'm definitely in!
ReplyDelete.. no logo this time?
I'm having a bit of trouble finding someone to create the logo (beautiful Rebekka who created 2013's logo has a bad back and can't paint as much as she would like). It's on my list of things to do though, so keep an eye out x
DeleteThere is another lovely blogger who participated last year who is very talented with her painting her blog is called Oana Befort. Her work is just gorgeous http://www.oanabefort.com. xx
DeleteI do love Oana's work. I wonder if she would be interested? x
DeleteLoving everything you've done here Jodi. Well done to you! Gorgeous shot of Poet. I will miss seeing your Che, mainly because I love seeing your photography work...but I have a feeling I'll be seeing plenty of that this year from you. Good luck de-tangling that hair!! xx
ReplyDeleteI'll share glimpses of Che and his unportraits, most definitely. When he went to school his world got so much bigger (and as my readership grows I have to stay wary). But of course there will be many, many photos of Poet, home, life, the beach, etc x
DeleteHi Jodi and all, I've wanted to participate for a while now. And though I have no children yet, I have decided a portrait of my partner and myself a week will work for me, a great way to capture us in our first year of being engaged! Looking forward to seeing everyone's portraits!
ReplyDeleteLou
A beautiful idea, Louise. x
DeleteCan't quite believe it's 1/52! That honey girl is magic xxx
ReplyDeleteShe's equal parts honey and spice ;) x
DeleteWow, your new blog is beautiful, so peaceful and serene, what a gorgeous place you have carved out in the big bold chaotic web world, congrats on new beginnings. Please advise how you carved out the time to write blog posts when you very first started? I have managed one post in 3 months! I guess its prob just prioritising better, I have alot to learn I think. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely words, thank you x
DeleteSimply gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteLove those wild curls!
ReplyDeleteThe new site and intention is just wonderful Jodi - well done. And Poet's curls really are something, so whimsical.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to 52 in 2014.
x Laura
I'm really looking forward to being part of this project this year.
ReplyDeleteI love Poet's wild hair, so angelic looking.
I am so excited about following this year! This should be fun :)
ReplyDeleteShe is so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to continuing this project in 2014 and as always thank you for hosting it.
Yay to be joining in this year!
ReplyDeleteJoining in for the first time this year, I'm very excited to take part and to have my own collection of images at the end of the year!
ReplyDeleteJoining you for this new year, I lurked all last year and never got started.
ReplyDeleteLove the new blog by the way - its awesome
Beautiful photo Jodi. I'm joining in this year. Hope I can keep it up as it will be so lovely to look back on x
ReplyDeleteCount me in! I'm such a newbie in terms of photography, but I'm eager to learn and improve and I find this project so inspiring. Thanks for hosting Jodi.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi i love this idea and I just added my very first post in your link up!
ReplyDeleteJen
Beautiful new site. I have been watching in awe for some time, so I'm keen to join in this year. Can't wait to join you x
ReplyDeleteHoping I can keep this project up this year Jodi! Thanks for the opportunity. Alison x
ReplyDeleteYour portraits are always so beautiful and so very inspiring. Happy 2014 to you and your family. Melinda x
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi, I'm joining in with the 52 project this year and looking forward to it. I've just read an old post and in that post you talked about getting a photo book done. Did you end up doing this and is there a post about the book? Regards Kathy A, Brisbane. Here is your link:-
ReplyDeletehttp://practisingsimplicity.blogspot.com/2013/05/2052.html
Hi Kathy, I decided to wait till the end of 2013 and do the 2012 & 2013 books together. I'm getting them printed through Artifact Uprising and their quality is superb but the postage to Australia is exorbitant; hence getting two years worth of books in the one package made sense. It's one of the projects I'm going to work on while Daniel is OS for 3 months so I'll be sure to do a post on it x
DeleteFeeling so inspired reading your blog and love your photography. Such a great way to describe the un-portraits, I always try to get my kids to pose so looking forward to capturing the everyday and bringing this new aspect to my photography. I am super excited about taking part this year, a first time blogger so feeling a little nervous but hoping to get it up and running in the next few days, does it matter if I'm a bit late joining in? Do I just link in by clicking on the blue button up the top and do I have to do it every week or just the once? Thanks! Natalie :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Natalie! Yes, you have to link your blog post every week so if you click on the title of your post you'll get the url which will be something like yourblogname.blogspot.com/2014/01/152 ... the link for this week's portraits closes early next Sunday morning x
DeleteThanks Jodi x
DeleteGorgeous photo. As much as I agree and understand your reasons to only include Poet's photo in the series this year I do miss Che already. Sorry! Just had to say :) xx
ReplyDeleteNikki, I know. His photo from this week was so gorgeous; a portrait unlike any I had captured in the past and there was a part of me that wanted to share it. I ummed and ahhed for a few days and decided that keeping it for our eyes was for the best. x
DeleteCan I just say how much I love that as a mama you hold fast and stay true to fiercely protecting your Che?
DeleteI am new to this project this year and I am so excited to be talking more pics of my kids.
ReplyDeleteJoining in again, Jodi. This year I'll give Rich a break and intend to put mothers in the limelight. I cant thank you enough for encouraging us all to participate, even though my take on the subject isn't the traditional one. The structure in practising my photography has been so beneficial. More than that though, it's gifted me with perspective and gratitude each week. Stunning image of Poet this week! Belinda x
ReplyDeletePoet is absolutely breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteWith a deep breath, I am in! Starting with a bit of a fuzzy one of me and my belly, taken by my ever-compliant husband. Soon our little one will be here and I'm not sure but hers might end up being more of the un-portrait type...we'll see how the week's unfold. It's lovely to see and read about your blog change, congratulations Jodi!
ReplyDeleteMelania x
Loved this project last year. Have decided to join in again this year, but by photographing my three altogether instead of individually. xo
ReplyDeleteI love this project and am joining too - my twins are only 5 months now and it'll be an amazing journey to capture and witness, I'm sure :D As I'm supercareful with their privacy (therefore wholeheartedly agreeing with your decision to exclude Che's pictures), I won't blog the pictures publicly, though, only password protected, so no link from me. But I'm so looking forward to seeing your photos throughout the year :D Thanks again for this wonderful idea! xx
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you are doing this project again. I was following along on a number of blogs last year and thought it was a special idea. Love the new blog look. Practising Simplicity has been my fave posts since I found your blog.
ReplyDeleteDear Jodi, Happy new year! It was such a pleasure meeting you last year, learning from you and following along on your journey. I adore your new blog name, it is very fitting. I'm joining in the 52 Project this year, and certainly hope I can keep up! Wishing you and your family and this lovely space of yours all the best for 2014.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a head full of curls like that too. I've given up x
ReplyDeleteoh those lips. i wish we all kept that young wild. not to be so tamed by the world but run, with tangled hair, free.
ReplyDeletehappy to join in again this year. x ashley
Jodi, thanks for the update on the photo books. I've looked at that company as well and I love everything about them and what they stand for, relatively new start up, values etc. and I too nearly fell off my chair with the postage. I mean there's postage from the USA (which is dear) and then there's postage (which is theirs). Totally crazy I think that's why I didn't want to use them which is a shame. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy I have had a couple of books done through Canon, and I thought the quality was good, and the postage reasonable. Friends have used Momento and were very happy, not sure in the postage though. Hope that helps.
DeleteOh that girl has fire in her belly. Those lips are squishable!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to join along this year and i'm super excited about the changes here too.
While 2014 promises to be chaotic, simplicity is one of my major intentions for the year,
perfect timing. xoxo
I'm joining in for the first time and I'm really looking forward to it! Hopefully I can stick with it! I love the new name and look of your blog as well - perfect!
ReplyDeletelove the new look of your blog! thanks for hosting the 52 project again this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to be joining in once again this year, trying out a few new things too! Its such an inspiration to be part of a collection and community like this!
ReplyDeleteI found your photos so inspiring last year, and love that you have inspired so many people to capture their children's childhoods as well. Can't wait to join in this year and build a picture of my own children's year.
ReplyDeleteSo excited to be joining in this year! Now to just remember each week....
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about getting my teeth stuck into this. This is my first year taking part. I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. Thanks so much :)
ReplyDeletexx Jo @ BabbleOn City blog xx
Joining in for the first time! This week, I have one kiddo under the weather and one still in utero (almost 40 wks!) Hoping to have pictures of them both next week! Thank you for giving a space to such a fun project!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new beginning! This is my first time taking part in this project, and I'm so looking forward to it. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThose curls are adorable. I am soo excited to join in on this project with you and many others! I've enjoyed seeing them over the past two years :)
ReplyDelete-N
So excited to join in this year! I've seen some beautiful pictures over the last year but didn't feel right jumping in mid-year. Your daughter's curls are beautiful, as is she.
ReplyDeleteI love your new blogstyle! I'm so happy that I can join this project this year!
ReplyDeleteI am so exited to participate with the 52 project for the first time, thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteSuper excited about this project, and to join in this year! Also, love the exciting "newness" going on with your blog. I stumbled upon it only a couple of weeks before Christmas and was enchanted. Lovely and simple - two favorite things. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time joining and I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteJoining in this year mainly because it will give me some solid motivation to capture my children more regularly. What a gorgeous space this is :)
ReplyDeleteThose crazy curls. I do hope Poet always keeps the gorgeous energy she transmits in her images.
ReplyDeletePerfect Poet-mermaid.
ReplyDeleteJoining in for the first time (:
After having a bit of trouble yesterday, your blog is working for me today! Can't believe its the start of a new round of 52, the past year has gone too fast. I will do my best to add my link this year, I almost never got around to it in 2013.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see your images of Poet, i automatically see Indiana in a year. They look nothing alike, but knowing Indi was born on Poets first birthday, I imagine this is just where she will be in twelve months time - with a little less hair, but the same feisty attitude no doubt!
Rhi xx
Hi Jodi, I only just discovered the 52 Project last week, and am excited for the year of photography opportunities ahead - I have just had my first baby so this is perfect timing - and a lovely, achievable way of capturing her development on a regular basis. Thank you for providing this lovely community!
ReplyDeleteJust recently discovered your blog and this project, and I'm so excited about both! Joining for the first time today- thank you for such a neat idea!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to participate this year after loving a friend's posts in 2013! Thanks for a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteyour blog is reallyreally beautiful

ReplyDeleteAnd Poet is so gorgeous…so looking forward to doing the project again with you this year :)
loving everything here Jodi. after becoming fearful of the kids on the blog last year and backing out of the 52 project in the last 10 weeks, i am joyous to be feeling happier about this again and joining in xxx
ReplyDeleteDelighted to finally have a baby and join in with this wonderful community this year. Congratulations on the new blog and thank you for sharing this project and your thoughts again.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to doing this project with you and everyone else as well! Where can I find a link for the badge? xx
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a new badge designed at the moment! It will be available soon...
DeleteAhh ok, thanks! :)
DeleteI am joining in for the first time, what a great way to document life with our little ones. I am excited to participate!
ReplyDeleteJodi, are you shooting with a CANON now? Have you stopped using your loved GF1?
ReplyDeleteI've already told you how much I love this new project so I just want to thank you from the big wide inspiration.
I am shooting on a canon but Daniel is about to take it overseas so I'll go back to the GF1 for a while x
DeleteHoping to join in properly this year - I managed the first five weeks last year and then got totally derailed from life by having a baby. Finally picking myself back up again. Am hoping to get to grips with my real camera this year but to start with I'm mostly going to be iPhoning it in while I get into the discipline of actually taking pics and blogging. Baby steps...
ReplyDeleteshe's completely divine Jodi x
ReplyDeleteJodi...she is so lovely. Her curly hair is adorable :0) m.b. I just posted my first weekly picture. You have made me go out of my cottage in this very frigid Monday to take pictures of the river... thank you for that :D m.b.
ReplyDeleteLovely new look and feel! I am feeling excited about the 52 project, it will be my first time committing to a personal project in a long while, it feels like an old friend. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to join this project! I'm trying something a bit different - my baby for 6 months inside my belly and then 6 months outside my belly.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling conflicted - are we allowed to use iPhone photos? Or is a preference towards "real" cameras? ~Jenna
ReplyDeleteThere are absolutely no rules, Jenna. Do what you feel is best! x
DeleteThanks Jodi!! I really appreciate it :)
DeleteLoved this new space of yours, looking forward for the beautiful memories it would make.
ReplyDeleteI totally loved and enjoyed the 52 in 2013. Your effort is not only letting us make memories but evolve ourselves as better photographer, and find lovely friends who share the same passion.
Have a wonderful year! :)
Another year, HOORAY! such fun jumping in on the action late last year .excited to start at the beginning this year. x
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to be taking part this year. Love the new website.

So lovely Jodi! Happy to see you continuing on in 2014, and watching Che and Poet grow! I am also happy to be joining this year in the 52 project from the beginning! I plan on making an album of mine once I'm done.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are hosting this fun project again, and I'm really happy for the active engagement and stance about whether to post Che's photos, shows you're a considerate mama. I know you are anxious, but wow, what an adventure you're about to go on, enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteJodi, love this project, and so excited to be participating this year!
ReplyDeleteSuper excited to join in on this project this year! I'm hoping to challenge myself to capture more non-traditional photos of my family and share! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteJoining in for the first time and no idea what I'm doing! Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteLovely project. I did this for my son and captured his entire first year I made a collage of square 4x4 prints on wall in our dining room. I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI had loved watching this project evolve on your beautiful blog, and finally took up the challenge myself this year. Looking forward to participating, and getting to know the others that participate as well. Cheers! xx
ReplyDeleteI want to join but i havent had children yet.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing #the52project since January, but how do I link my own post, I don't see the 'read more' button.
